Now that the 1394.3 working group has voted to send 1394.3 to ballot, I'm sure that many of you would like to participate in the ballot. Here are the instructions for getting yourselves invited to ballot 1394.3.

In order to ballot 1394.3, you need to be a member of the IEEE Standards Association (SA) and you need to become a member of the IEEE ballot pool. You do not need to be a member of the IEEE. You can become a member of the ballot pool without first joining the SA, but you must be a member of the SA before you will be allowed to ballot.

First, to become a member of the IEEE ballot pool, fill out the form at http://standards.ieee.org/db/balloting/ballotform.html . You can select as many societies as you with, but the 1394 and 1212 standards are sponsored by the "Microprocessors and Microcomputers Standards Committee", so be sure to select "Microprocess. & Microcomp." under the Computer Society. When the ballot body is formed, you will be invited to participate. As a member of the IEEE ballot pool you will also be able to vote on other specifications.

To join the SA, you can find information and a PDF form at: http://standards.ieee.org/sa-mem/index.html . The dues vary depending upon whether or not you are an IEEE member ($10) or non-IEEE member ($125). U.S. dues for joining the IEEE are $113, so it is actually cheaper to join both the IEEE and the SA.

If you want to join the IEEE, you can find information and an on-line form at: http://www.ieee.org/membership/.
