PWG folks interested in the Free Software Group's Job Ticket API
might like to listen in later today.
The FSG JTAPI has its own protocol-neutral very rich model of Jobs,
Documents, and numerous other objects (essentially, anything that
would be a 'collection' compound attribute in IPP becomes a first
class object in JTAPI).
An application uses JTAPI calls to create Job Ticket, Job, and one
or more Documents. It then calls the JTAPI function to write out
the abstract job ticket into a concrete format to some file system
(ftp, http, or whatever).
Initially, the only concrete job ticket format will be CIP4 JDF.
But later PWG Job Ticket (when defined) and legacy job tickets
(such as Adobe's) can be supported in vendor implementations.
Currently, the UML model for JTAPI is complete. We're making a
last pass through the enumerations and typedefs (enums that point
to another registry like the IANA Charsets or PWG Media Names).
The first protocol binding will be C language. The next will be
Java. Those are the only two that the JT Working Group plans to
standardize in the near future.
