All,

We discussed the results of the poll on NLO 3 and NLO 4. The participants
were
leaning towards answering NLO 3 with YES, but NLO 4 with NO (although most
people
had said YES on the DL). The reason for the latter is that it would break
some existing implementations. Tom Hastings will write up the detailed
results
and post them separately, we expect to confirm the final outcome in Tucson.

Highest priority for the Tucson meeting will be to get full agreements on
any
remaining minor fixes that we want to do to our IPP drafts, including review
of
the new Implementer's Guide document. Tom has produced an intermediate
version
of the Model document for review and Bob will provide one for the Protocol
document.

We also discussed the new proposal from Ira McDonald on a "light weight"
solution for
the IPP URL Scheme. Ira's proposal limits the use of the scheme to the user
interface,
which means that neither protocol nor IPP Printer implementations would be
impacted.
This approach found more approval than the previously suggested versions
from the ADs,
and it was decided that our new version of the IPP URL Scheme would document
Ira's
proposal. This does not mean that we yet have either IPP WG or AD support
for the new
solution, but it seems to have more potential for consensus than the
previous version.
Carl-Uno has alerted the ADs about Ira's proposal, and they will review it
over the
week-end.

Carl-Uno suggested that people start thinking about what they would like to
see tested
in the next IPP bake-off, tentatively planned for February 1999, and bring
their ideas
to the Tucson meeting. Genoa seems to have woken up to the need for a
neutral test
operator for IPP and will send Amar Rajan to participate in Tucson.

As we will meet in Tucson next week, there will be no phone conference. Next
IPP
phone conference is hence on November 18.
