All,

I have uploaded a DRAFT version of a proposal for how an IPP Printer would
advertise its service using the Simple Service Discovery Protocol. This
document is a result of conversations held within the UPnP Imaging Working
Group. The desire was to provide a mechanism that would allow print clients
in UPnP to "negotiate up" to a richer printing protocol. The UPnP Imaging
Working Group decided that the proper way for discovering if a print device
is IPP capable required the IPP Printer to advertise its service separately.
This proposal describes how SSDP can be used to advertise an IPP Printer.

This document, "Internet Printing Protocol (IPP): Advertisement via the
Simple Service Discovery Protocol", is intended to become an IEEE-ISTO PWG
Draft Standard. This mail note initiates a request for comments on this
document. The abstract and links to the document are included below.

Abstract:
This document specifies how a printer that supports the Internet Printing
Protocol /1.1 can use the Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) to
advertise its print service. A number of service advertising methods exist.
This document does not recommend one method over another. The intent is to
detail how the advertisement would be accomplished with SSDP.
