At our OP Monthly Call on 01/06/26, Till asked for PWG input by 01/26/26.
Although the mentoring organization application deadline is 02/03/26 and
OP can continue to add project ideas until 02/18/26, Till said that Google
mostly looks at the number and quality of by project ideas by 02/03/26 for
their mentor organizations decisions. I suggested OAuth and Firmware
Update as high-value
OP GSoC 2026 Project Ideas as of 01/11/26:
While the final list for 2026 is still in development, projects generally
focus on
modernizing the printing architecture, CUPS 3.x integration,
GUI modernization
(GTK and Qt), testing automation, and adding new features like IPP Fax Out.
Here's the near-term GSoC 2026 timeline:
- 01/19/26 - Mentoring organizations begin submitting applications to
Google
- 02/03/26 - Mentoring organization application deadline
- 02/03/26 to 02/18/26 - Google program admins review org applications
- 02/19/26 - List of accepted mentoring organizations published
- 02/19/26 to 03/15/26 - Potential GSoC contributors discuss ideas
