But my concern is that my printer will start behaving differently one day, and I will have no idea that the firmware has changed. It would be helpful if there were a message on the screen, a lit light, a printer message, something apparent to tell me it has new firmware before I go looking for other problems.
For better or worse that is the state of the art today for the majority of IPP printers... :/
WRT the proposed extensions, the 'new-firmware-installation-success' keyword will be set by the Printer after installing a firmware update. I personally think we need to work on this name but the semantic is there...
In addition, I think it would be useful to add a new "printer-firmware-support-uri (uri)" attribute that points to the release notes/information for the currently installed firmware.

I envision a printer out of service because it is repeatedly trying to update and failing; or alternatively of no one aware that it does not have critical new firmware.
I'm hoping that the new "printer-state-reasons" keywords and "printer-new-firmware-xxx" attributes will provide the necessary information/transparency. Currently we have nothing... :/
