Hi,

I would like to suggest to add a topic for connection-less services
originally
proposed by Brian Batchelder.

Connection-less services over SBP-2 from an initiator to a target seems to
be easier to design.

1.1.
A send_to_I_2_T service requires four transaction listed below;
[ I ] invokes Login     >>>    [ T ] replies Login response
[ I ] invokes normal data session >>> [ T ] consumes requests
[ I ] receives status    <<<    [ T ] replies status
[ I ] invokes Logout    >>>    [ T ] accepts Logout

1.2.
A receive_from_I_2_T service requires four transaction listed below;
[ I ] invokes Login     >>>    [ T ] replies Login response
[ I ] consumes request <<<    [ T ] invokes normal data session
[ I ] receives status    <<<    [ T ] replies status
[ I ] invokes Logout    >>>    [ T ] accepts Logout

However any service from the target to the initiator looks more difficult.

2.1.
A send_to_T_2_I service requires four transaction listed below;
[ T ] writes a 1394 bus level command to specific register of [ I ]
[ T ] replies Login status     <<<     [ I ] invokes Login
[ T ] invokes normal data session >>> [ I ] consumes request
[ T ] receive status session    <<<   [ I ] send transaction status
utilizing ORB
[ T ] replies status for the ORB >>>   [ I ] receive status
[ T ] accept Logout    <<<   [ I ] invokes Logout

2.2.
A receive_from_T_2_I service requires four transaction listed below;
[ T ] writes a 1394 bus level command to specific register of [ I ]
[ T ] replies Login status     <<<     [ I ] invokes Login
[ T ] consume request       <<<     [ I ] invokes normal data session
[ T ] replies status     >>>   [ I ] receive status
[ T ] accept Logout    <<<   [ I ] invokes Logout

As conclusion, I hardly image connection-less service from the target
to the initiator without some assistance of bus level transaction from
the target side, to solicit the initiator to make login.

This issue is quite old issue which was remarked as LOGIN SOLICIT
REGISTER. Does anyone have other idea to solve connection-less
service from the target to the initiator?

Thank you,
