PWG 5100.20-2020: IPP Everywhere™ Printer Self-Certification Manual v1.1 (SELFCERT)
Add guidance / policy on registering derivative products

Michael Sweet Apr 8, 2021

From February 25, 2021 IPP WG conference call:

Consensus is to allow it for same product family within 6 months of original self-certification; otherwise requires a fresh self-certification

Related discussions:

- Allow 1.0 certifications after the June 30, 2021 deadline for any products in the same family until end of 2021 (6 months)
- New firmware does not require an updated self-certification - honor system, assume that engineers will still run (regression) testing anyways.

Sometimes later models are also released with firmware / mechanisms identical to those already certified, but with slightly different model names. There was a mechanism built into the old web-based workflow but it wasn't formalized in 5100.20. With the new registration method (JSON files emailed to the ipp@pwg.org reflector) this needs to be documented somewhere, and 5100.20 is probably the right place to do it.

Get guidance from IPP WG on what that policy should be (i.e. when etc.).
