    IPP FAX folks,

Please review this draft addition to extension1 to TIFF/FX which is Profile
    T (JBIG2).
JBIG2 has 5 application profiles. We may want to define UIF application
    parameter values of the Tn,
    were 'n' is digits '1' to '5'.

Please also review the extensions to CONNEG for higher resolution.

Please send comments to both the IPP FAX DL (ifx@pwg.org) and the Internet
FAX DL (ietf-fax@imc.org) before August 4, so that they can be considered at
the IETF meeting in London Aug 6-10. Positive comments, such as reviewed
and approve, are just as helpful as comments that request changes,
additions, or clarifications or point out problems, because they give
evidence to the IETF that the document has been reviewed.

Any individual IPP FAX person can make comments. Also the IPP FAX WG may
want to discuss any comments at their upcoming August 1 meeting in Toronto.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    All,
    The following URL:
       http://www.parc.xerox.com/ietf_fax/
    contains two drafts (draft-mcintyre-tiff-fx-extension1-02.txt and
    draft-mcintyre-feature-schema-extension1-00.txt) for your review and
comment. The drafts will be discussed during the IFax WG session of the Aug.
    London IETF meetings.

I am requesting your immediate review of the
draft-mcintyre-tiff-fx-extension1-02.txt document and submission of your
individual (preferable since the IETF process is driven by a collection of
individual comments) or collective comments to the IETF IFax dl
        <ietf-fax@imc.org>.
It is urgent that you provide your comments prior to August 4th, start of
the IETF London meetings. My plan is to request WG Last Call of the TIFF-FX
Extension Set 1 draft for Proposed Standard consideration - during the
    meeting.

Given that the UIF spec. is TIFF-FX-based, it is in your interest as ours to
see that the draft is properly reviewed and progressed accordingly. The IETF
process will not allow progress without posting of comments to the IFax dl,
showing that it has been reviewed.

A brief summary of the drafts is provided below.

    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    1. draft-mcintyre-tiff-fx-extension1-02.txt
This is intended to represent the -02 draft version of
draft-ietf-fax-tiff-fx-extension1-01.txt, which was sent to the drafts list
for publication on Friday July 20th but arrived after the 17:00 USA Eastern
    Daylight Time cut-off.

The main changes in draft-mcintyre-tiff-fx-extension1-02.txt relative to
    draft-ietf-fax-tiff-fx-extension1-01.txt are:
    a) a restructuring of the draft to change its context from being a narrative
on performing a text edit of TIFF-FX (RFC 2301 or a replacement RFC XXXX) to
a more self-contained structure, which must be read together with RFC XXXX.
This is consistent with the fact that RFC XXXX will not be modified by this
    or any future extension.
    b) accommodation of the two new JBIG2 profiles under ITU-T Last Call
    approval (July 28th LC closure).
    c) accommodation of JPEGTables field to improve interoperability with
applications such as Photoshop 6.0 which always uses the JPEGTables field
    when generating JPEG encoded files.

    2. draft-mcintyre-feature-schema-extension1-00.txt
This draft defines extensions to RFC 2879 Content Feature Schema for
Internet Fax (V2) and requests registration of the new feature tags and new
values for existing tags. These extensions reflect the range of new TIFF-FX
Extension Set 1 capabilities (e.g. new resolutions 300x600 to 1200x1200 and
JBIG2 encoding) that were adopted by Group 3 facsimile during the period of
    1999 through 2001.
