While implementation of a directory service is not required for conformance
to the IPP standard, there is an attribute schema listed in the last section
of the IPP Model document that should be used in a directory whether it be
LDAP or SLP or ....

There is also an SLP draft schema for IPP and LPD printers.

It's not a requirement of IPP.
