[NOTE - This release is part of the ongoing work of integrating the WIMS
Schema set into the future Semantic Model v2.0 release - this schema is
backwards compatible with the previous version, EXCEPT for the two name
changes to avoid element name collisions]

Hi folks, Saturday (22 April 2006)

I just posted a new version of the Subunits XML schema to add a Finisher
subunit and vendor extension points (see change log below) at:

        ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/schemas/Subunits-20060422.xsd
            - Subunits v0.60

        ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/schemas/Subunits-20060422-xsd.pdf
            - Subunits v0.60 color-highlighted, line-numbered PDF

This schema validates warning-free in XMLSPY 2004, XSV v2.10, and XRay.

ISSUE-1: This version maps all three conventional SNMP object tables
from the Finisher MIB (RFC 3806), but does NOT map any of the attributes
(roughly 40) defined in the 'FinAttributeTypeTC' textual convention and
    represented in the 'finDeviceAttributeTable'.

PROPOSAL-1: We should add these remaining general and type-specific
Finisher attributes to the 'FinisherStatus' and 'FinisherDescription'
groups in the schema, for full-fidelity mapping to the Finisher MIB.

ISSUE-2: This version maps lifetime and power-on counters defined in
the Printer MIB v2 (RFC 3805) and Finisher MIB (RFC 3806), but does
NOT map other subunit counters from the PWG Imaging System Counters MIB.

PROPOSAL-2: We should add these other counters (subunit-specific
work/errors/etc.) to the appropriate 'XxxStatus' groups in the schema,
for full-fidelity mapping to the PWG Imaging System Counters MIB.

ISSUE-3: This version continues to model a Transformer subunit (needed
by the Transform Service defined in PWG 5106.1) as a special-case of an
Interpreter subunit - but this model doesn't describe a Transformer
subunit very accurately - for example, output formats are not modelled.

PROPOSAL-3: We should add a real Transformer subunit to the schema.

    Comments?

    Cheers,
    - Ira

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

[changes from Subunits v0.50 to v0.60]

    (1) Changed all present/on/off elements from 'xsd:boolean' (bi-state)
to 'SubunitPresentOnOffWKV' (tri-state) for full-fidelity mapping.

    (2) Added explicit include of 'WimsType.xsd' (for free-standing verify),
per request of Pete Zehler at Semantic Model telecon 19 April 2006.

    (3) Added 'Finisher' subunit (maps to 'finDeviceEntry' in RFC 3806) with
a 'FinisherSupplies' component (maps to 'finSupplyTable') containing
        'FinisherSupplyMediaInputs' (maps to 'finSupplyMediaInputTable'),
per request of Pete Zehler at Semantic Model telecon 19 April 2006.

    (4) Renamed 'ChannelXxx' elements and types to 'InputChannelXxx'
for forward compatibility with future 'OutputChannels' for
ScanService and ScanDevice references in MFP Alerts model,
per request of Pete Zehler at Semantic Model telecon 19 April 2006.

    (5) Renamed 'OutputBinXxx' elements and types to 'OutputTrayXxx'
to fix name collision with OutputBin element of PrintJob,
per request of Pete Zehler at Semantic Model telecon 19 April 2006.

    (6) Added 'VendorSubunit' and 'VendorSubunits' elements and types
        (for vendor extension subunit),
per request of Pete Zehler at Semantic Model telecon 19 April 2006.

    (7) Added multi-valued 'SubunitElement' (generic element) to end of all
'Xxx' (object), 'XxxStatus' (group), and 'XxxDescription' (group)
sequence clauses (for structured vendor extension points),
per request of Pete Zehler at Semantic Model telecon 19 April 2006.
