WinRM (and PowerShell) from Microsoft does indeed provide CLI access to
CIM data using WS-Management. I will probably use some WinRM or
PowerShell scripts to debug the prototype. However, I am sorry to
report that this is not a reasonable management interface for system
managers. It is a very general facility, and very low level, at the
level of Get and Set but using WS-Man instead of SNMP. For programmers,
for debugging use, yes. For day-to-day management by IT personnel, no.

A provider will do only that: provide data to the CIM Object Manager
(CIMOM), which on Windows is WMI. A user needs a management application
that is tuned to the problem at hand. To my knowledge, there is
currently no application to manage printers using the new CIM classes,
which are brand new. I do not think the proposed project includes a
management application with a user interface suitable for IT use. That
    is another job.

    All,

Here is the link to the documents about Windows Remote Management
    (WinRM).
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384426(VS.85).aspx

    It says:

"You can use WinRM scripting objects, the WinRM command-line tool, or
the Windows Remote Shell command line tool WinRS to obtain management
data from local and remote computers that may have baseboard management
controllers (BMCs). If the computer runs a Windows-based operating
system version that includes WinRM, the management data is supplied by
    Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)."

Looking at the Remote Management Architecture, it seems to me that as
long as the proxy server has a WinRM listener installed, and we provide
CIM printer objects to the WMI plugin. Then on Vista client, we can use
the WinRM.cmd command line tool to request and see the collected
    management data.
