Per our discussion on the topic of ICC profiles and Lab color spaces at the
Maui meeting...
After doing some research on ICC profiles, I propose we make the changes to
the PDF/is specification that are shown in the PDF at:
<ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/QUALDOCS/other/ICCBasedColorSpace.pdf>.
The limitations that are placed on the profiles will yield very small ICC
profiles that are fully functional and that do not compromise quality. By
using ICC profiles instead of a device independent color space, we alleviate
the burden from the Producer of the Document. Also, by allowing for
Consuming devices to not support ICC based profiles (if they a color
limited, see link), and the fact that the input profiles are relatively
simple to implement; the Consuming device's should not (in my opinion) be
overly burdened.
