<DIV><FONT size=2>Level 1 of UPDF will not support any proprietary function call
to an IHV library.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>That does not mean we are not thinking about it.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>The format does not support the definition of raster
compression (however the reference to a predefined list), the complete
replacement of raster graphic, any kind of download, raster interleaving or
other candidates for a proprietary library. Depending on the interest and the
will of contribution we might talk that over. I could imagine something like
predefined function calls with a list of predefined parameters, a list
of tasks a specific function is supposed to provide and the proper
reference place for a call. Any ongoing effort in that area also depends on the
acceptance and the implementation of the current UPDF level.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>I just don't want anybody to get the feeling we don't
acknowledge that functionality.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>Especially in the current process where we start discussing
details about raster graphic, color and halftoning we know that there is a huge
amount of proprietary information an IHV is not willing to share. We will
concentrate on the rather common and public information. That intention should
please explain some limitations we set for ourselves in this phase.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>Our target is to provide a description for correct output, not
necessarily for ultimate quality for e.g. raster graphic because of the reasons
mentioned above. Any driver developer can feel free to develop a UPDF driver
with additional functionality supporting the proprietary features considered
IP.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>As a chair I feel responsible to keep our job on a realistic
level and schedule. If more people and companies volunteer to contribute we can
talk about extending our targets.</FONT></DIV>
