PWG-ANNOUNCE> Call for Objections - Update to PWG Candidate Standard 5106.1-2005 - PWG Standard for Imaging System Counters

To PWG Members:

As was discussed at the last Face-to face meeting, a significant issue was identified with regard to the approved PWG Candidate Standard 5106.1-2005- PWG Standard for Imaging System Counters, commonly know as the "Counter Spec". This issue has been addressed and reviewed by the members of the WIMS Working Group. A revision to the document, including both the correction to the identified issue and a few minor clarifications, has been approved by the working group and is currently posted at:
ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/wd-wimscount10-20070405.pdf

Because of the low impact of this revision, the PWG Steering Committee has ruled that the revised standard does not need to go though a formal approval cycle by the PWG as a whole, but that the PWG membership should be notified of the change and allowed to present objections. This email constitutes that notification.

The Call for Objections will remain open until the PWG Plenary meeting on 27 April 2007, at which time any received objections will be addressed. If there are objections, the revised document will be renumbered and posted as the applicable counter spec. Your timely consideration of this is important as there are current efforts to update and implement a Counter MIB realization of the Counter Spec.

The substantive changes made relatively to the approved standard are:

1. Page 8: added to definition of "Datastream", "...including associated job processing instructions (e.g., job ticket.)"
2. Page 11: Added definition of "Raw Traffic"
3. Page 12: Added definition of "Single-sided"
4. Page 28, Table 5.3.1:
                  1. Modified introductory paragraph
                  2. Modified definition of MediaUsed.MediaInfo
                  3. Added MediaUsed.MediaAccountingKey element to table

Please respond to wims@pwg.org with any questions, objections or comments, not to pwg-announce@pwg.org.

Thank You.

Bill Wagner
Chairman, WIMS WG PWG
