ISSUE NO.:961206-004NAME:What is unique about printers?STATUS:TBD
RESOLUTION:DATE:TBD
ORIGIN:12/6/96 Meeting at Adobe Systems
DESCRIPTION:How much new work needs to be done to enable printing on 1394.
DISCUSSIONS:
  • If a unique solution is chosen, then special drivers need to be loaded.
  • Desired conclusion is NO, but, needs to be looked at in more detail.
  • SBP-2 looks good.
  • Update of issue from 5/14/97 Meeting in San Diego
    • Different efforts under way on Camera - Peer to Peer Printing Proposals:
      • Fuji Film inbound only iso color dumb printer
      • Epson : Multi-channel below transport protocol
      • Cannon: Direct Print Protocol (and Login)
      • Sharp: A Digital Still Image Data Transfer Protocol
      • Sony: AV/C protocol based printer protocol
  • Update of issue from October 27th Meeting in Boulder, CO
    • Scope:
      • Suggestion to define an Imaging profile over SBP-2.
      • Concern that this might be beyond the group's current scope.
      • Result of discussion - agreement to try and define a generic 1284.4 over 1394 transport - independent of device class.
