Just for the record, the diagrams used in the MFD Model and Common Semantics
were Liquid XML generated (from when they offered a free viewer). The
working group felt at the time that the graphics were better than those from
Spy.

Hi Paul,

A server-installed XML Spy copy is a *much* more expensive license.

FWIW - I've used Liquid XML Studio Designer for the last 7 years now.

I paid $169 for the original license and $60 for each year's upgrade

(optional - the original license is forever).

  http://www.liquid-technologies.com/xml-studio.aspx?view=editions

Liquid XML Studio will build extensive navigable pictures and HTML

for every single attribute, group, class, and type in the PWG SM XML
Schema (it takes about 30 minutes to complete).

BTW - Liquid XML Studio regularly catches XML Schema errors that
are missed by Altova XML Spy - there are several dozen in v1.85.

Cheers,

- Ira

Hi Bill,

You can view the diagram by opening the png file and then expanding the view
. As you mention, in its base size it is not readable.

Where we are moving the PWG web site to a new virtual host, I wonder whether
the PWG could purchase an XMLSpy license and install it on the new virtual
site such that any of us who would need to update the schema could use it.

The diagrams on the web showing only two levels are not a limitation of the
tool. More levels can be shown in a graphic as needed.

Also if we need it, I believe I can produce the HTML files, to illustrate
the Abstract Base Class, so that we can add them to the PWG web site.

Let me know if you want me to make HTML files of the Abstract Base Class
schema.

Thanks.

Best Regards,

/Paul

Thank you Paul, but the attached graphic appears to be jumbled.

We had agreed to try to use a common graphic style presentation in the
specification, and there was the suggestion that the type used in the
browseable version on the PWG web site would be good. But I do not see how
to get to the abstract base classes on the web. Is there some way to do
this?

Also, the browseable version is pretty much limited to showing two levels.
Although this simplifies things for very complicated elements, it would
produce an enormous number of figures for the spec, many of which would not
be particularly useful in themselves but necessary to show the path. In many
cases, having a more complex picture showing the path would be both more
efficient and more comprehendible. So we are back to coming up with a good
XML graphical program, accessible to the authors, that does not cost a
mint. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bill Wagner

Hi Bill,

The abstract base class model can be found here:

PWG_SM_2.0

Common Types, elements and schema

ServiceTypes.xsd

I expanded the complete abstract model and made a PNG of it (see attached).

I can make smaller PNG's of sections should you need them.

I will start validating the diagrams in section 5 in the coming days.

Thanks.

Best Regards,

/Paul
