PWG MIB Work Group

A Management Information Base (MIB) defines a framework for the management of systems using the IETF standard "Simple Network Management Protocol" (SNMP). MIB objects provide the ability to monitor and control systems, providing fault, configuration and performance management.

PWG MIBs allow network users to utilize SNMP and existing SNMP infrastructure to manage networked imaging devices. The working group has completed the development of MIB standards for the management of printers, finishing devices, and imaging jobs. For example, the Job Monitoring MIB provides job related information to end users and system operators plus accounting information at the end of a job.

Current work items include the development of a Port Monitor MIB, used to facilitate the installation of network printer ports and drivers for various operating systems. The PWG MIBs working group will remain active to support any future MIB development efforts and to maintain the related IANA registrations.
